Overcoming the Giant of Pride

Message Summary:

Pride is one of the most deceptive giants we face. It tells us, “You’ve got this,” but leaves us stumbling when life proves we don’t. In 1 Samuel 17, Goliath trusted in his own size, strength, and skill—yet one stone brought him down. David, on the other hand, came in the name of the Lord Almighty, placing his confidence not in himself, but in God.

Pride is more than arrogance—it’s when we build our identity on what we can do, what we’ve earned, or what others see in us. The problem? Those things can change. But God never changes.

The way forward isn’t in fighting harder—it’s in surrender. Pride says, look at me. Humility says, look at Him. David’s victory reminds us that the battle belongs to the Lord. And even more, this story points us to Jesus—the true Champion who defeated sin and death through the cross and resurrection.

The giant of pride cannot be defeated by self-effort. But in Christ, we share in a victory that was won for us. When we lay down pride and live in humility, we walk in freedom, hope, and lasting victory.
