The Hidden Prison of Debt—and How to Break Free

Debt is one of the most deceptive prisons we can walk into. It promises power, options, and comfort—but delivers stress, fear, and captivity. Proverbs 22:7 says, “The borrower is slave to the lender.” The truth is...

Debt doesn’t just take our money—it takes our peace.

In today’s culture, we often confuse “broke” with “poor.” Being poor is a circumstance—lacking the essentials of life. Being broke is a pattern—consistently spending more than you have. One can happen to anyone; the other is often a habit. Both can be redeemed when we let God reorder our financial priorities.

Jesus taught that faithfulness with little leads to trust with much. If we can’t manage our money well, how can we expect to experience the deeper spiritual riches God desires to entrust to us? As Luke 16 reminds us, we can’t serve both God and money. You can’t have two masters.

Freedom begins not with a raise or a lucky break, but with repentance and wisdom. God’s Word offers a clear path: acknowledge where we’ve gone wrong, seek His wisdom, and make a plan to live within His provision. True financial freedom doesn’t come from paying off a balance sheet—it comes from aligning your heart with God’s truth.

When we put God first, He breaks the chains that debt has wrapped around us. Because in His Kingdom, freedom is always possible.
