Fix Your Eyes On Jesus

Highpoint   -

Life can often feel chaotic, like a jumble of confusing patterns with no clear image. Imagine trying to make sense of a Magic Eye picture—a deliberate graphic mess of colors and patterns. Some people might see a hidden image within the chaos, while others might see nothing but noise. The same goes for our lives. Sometimes the chaos around us blurs our vision, and we struggle to see the bigger picture. We get so caught up in the distractions, obstacles, and past mistakes that we lose sight of what really matters: keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.

In Hebrews 12:1-3, the writer urges us to…

throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.

Jesus showed us the ultimate example of keeping the focus amidst the worst trials. What are you looking at today? Are you consumed by the situations you’re in, or are you looking to the One who is with you in every situation?

While Jesus showed us what it looks like to keep our eyes fixed on our Heavenly Father, Peter provides a vivid example of what happens when we take our eyes off Jesus (Matthew 14:22-31). As long as Peter focused on Jesus, he walked on water. But the moment he noticed the wind and the waves, fear set in, and he began to sink. Isn’t this what happens to us? We’re filled with faith when we leave church or after a powerful moment of worship, but then life’s waves crash over us—a stressful work deadline, a harsh comment, or an unexpected bill. Suddenly, we feel like we’re sinking. What changed?

We took our eyes off Jesus.

Even the disciples, who were physically with Jesus, struggled to focus on Him during life’s storms. They panicked when a storm threatened to capsize their boat, forgetting that Jesus was right there with them. When they woke Him, Jesus calmed the storm and asked, “Why were you so fearful?” If He said they were going to the other side, then they were going to make it. Similarly, when God tells us He’ll bring us through, He will. Our focus should remain on His promise, not the storm.

If you find yourself looking at the storms and the crashing waves of this life, it’s time to refocus. Take a moment to fix your eyes not on what’s happening around you, but on Jesus. He changes everything and makes all things new. Pray, “Lord, open my eyes to see You in every situation, to see how You see, and to trust you with my whole life.”
